We are pleased to announce GALLERY SIDE 2 Re-Opening.

Udomsak Krisanamis / Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon / Rirkrit Tiravanija, 3 person show opens on Saturday, June 13. The show will be re-installed with new works on July 4. At the moment, opening hours are Wednesday – Sunday 13:00-18:00.

3 artists have lived abroad and have been working internationally. They currently work from Chiangmai, Thailand, boosting the Thai contemporary art scene. It is our pleasure to introduce Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon’s work for the first time in Tokyo. The ideas such as life and art, high and low, recycling and creation, public and private, do not exist as different entities but merge and question us as the boundaries are blurred in his sculptures and paintings. The experience is also present in Krisanamis’ and Tiravanija’s works. The complexity of time and space we share underlies the works.

It was in the 90’s when we met Rirkrit and Udomsak. The time of Rodney King and Los Angeles riots, the same questions and problems still piercing us all. That was when Rirkrit brought out the storage contents to the main exhibition space “untitled 1992 (free)” and revealed the windows hidden behind the white cube to present an empty bright space “untitled 1995 (still)” at 303 Gallery. Udomsak was Rirkrit’s assistant then, listening to music at the gallery with his earphones, watching the passerby. He said “Happiness is only fleeting.” His work are almost always titled with song titles. We can hear his respect to music at Gavin Brown’s enterprise’s play list.

Artists, through good times and bad times, always look at the present and the future with quiet determination. The works could be free and open, yet, they do not work without relation to a viewer. We very much look forward to seeing you.
