Yuko Murata – new paintings

We are pleased to announce Yuko Murata’s 6th solo exhibition with GALLERY SIDE 2. She will be presenting her new paintings of fruits and vegetables along with landscapes and animals.

Murata’s simple composition, minimal lines and forms are deeply influenced by traditional Japanese painting. Taking from the 19th century European oil painting, the lush texture of oil paint covers the small field of canvas. The subjects are derived from existing photos such as old post cards, tourist leaflets, and encyclopedias. Murata captures the images that sleep in collective unconscious, float in the world as they are too ordinary and makes them into something special and memorable.

Her first book will be published from True Ring on July 5th. It contains 90 images, comes in soft and hard cover limited edition.
